Erlanger Personnel Respond to Assist Tornado Victims

On Friday, March 2, 2012, the Greater Cincinnati area was affected by violent severe weather, including several tornado touchdowns that left a wide swath of destruction through the area and took several lives.

One of the hardest hit areas was Piner, Kentucky in southern Kenton County which suffered four fatalities, multiple injuries and widespread destruction of property.  The National Weather Service reports that this tornado was an EF-4 with winds up to 175 miles per hour.

Soon after the tornado struck, the Erlanger Police Department, Erlanger Fire/EMS Department and the Northern Kentucky Technical Rescue Team deployed specialized critical resources upon request to assist the Community and citizens of Piner/Fiskburg and surrounding areas.  These units assisted with search and rescue operations, security, provided Advanced Life Support treatment to victims, and assisted with managing the incident.  Incidents such as this require a lot of resources and public safety agencies from all over the area were quick to help those who needed it the most.  by Craig Stewart
