The Sanitation District No. 1 is implementing their new FOG Program starting January 1, 2024 as a result of the Environmental Protection Agency's enforcement of the Clean Water Act and the impact that fats, oils, and grease (FOG) have on their sewer system. FOG can damage the sanitary sewer system by causing clogs to form at collection points which can cause overflows. Food Service Establishments (FSEs) will be responsible for making sure that their grease control equipment is constructed according to SD1's guidelines and is inspected and certified each year. The FSEs that do not meet these requirements will face potential enforcement action.
