Connect Erlanger!
Council Members Randy Blankenship and Vicki Kyle (859) 727-2525, #1
The Friendship City Networking committee is committed to providing our residents, businesses, and students with resources that will help them in their daily lives and promoting healthy living through exercise. The committee focuses on two main subcommittees, City Platform and Step Forward Erlanger. City Platform strives to connect Erlanger through resources. Step Forward Erlanger focuses on connecting a healthier Erlanger with walking and sidewalks. The Networking Committee also works closely with the schools to educate students on city government. In an effort to promote community service, this committee also awards a scholarship every spring to a graduating high school student that resides in Erlanger and has community service credentials.
Mission Statement
"Performing Collectively to Provide Exemplary Services for Our Community with Integrity and Pride"
City Platform
The 7 steps to "A City Platform" are: Early Childhood Development, Youth Development, Education and After School Programs, Health and Safety, Youth in Transition, Family Economic Success, and Neighborhood and Community.
Youth in Transition (ages 16-24) is an age group that the City Platform subcommittee has been very dedicated to. Statistics have shown that this age group is often ignored. There are many resources available to assist these individuals. Go to Brighton Center Resource Directory or to the Community Resource Information Guide for more information regarding available resources.
Step Forward Erlanger
The goal of Step Forward Erlanger is to build capacity through the development of bicycle and pedestrian facilities and garner community support through education and partnership. Their vision is connecting people through physical activity. To learn more about this group, please view the Step Forward Power Point Presentation, presented by Marsha Ball to Erlanger City Council on January 5, 2010. Ms. Ball is the Senior Health Educator with the Northern Kentucky Health Department. She is an active member of Step Forward Erlanger.
City Government Month
City Government Month takes place every April and students are recognized in May. The Networking committee works with the schools throughout the school year with the goal of educating children about city government. Elementary age children are taught about individuals in city government, such as, the Police and Fire Chiefs. Older elementary age children write essays about city government. Higher grade levels write ordinances. There are competitions, recognition of individuals, and prizes awarded.
