From the desk of
Captain Bob Arens

The Administrative Division of the Police Department encompasses several areas of the organization, they include: the (PSAP) Communication Center with seven dispatchers, School Resource Officer (SRO) / D.A.R.E with two officers, Data Entry one Clerk, Computer Technical problems, Uniform & Equipment purchasing, and any other task that relates to managing an office. Lieutenant Scott Abney manages the above areas with assistance of the Captain Arens who also prepares and oversees budget expenses, and Internal Affairs.

In this ever-changing business of law enforcement, the daily experiences of many police officers provide evidence that their role as law enforcers is changing rapidly and extensively. As we begin a new century of service we realize our duties will require personnel who are highly professional and prepared to continually raise their knowledge and skill levels. The Erlanger Police Department is deeply committed to meeting the challenges of the future. We are consistently tackling new challenges, adopting new technology, and developing new services, to better serve our community.

The division was tasked with two major projects in 2002: combining dispatch services with Elsmere and the deployment of Mobile Data Computers. After many months of research and planning, the Erlanger Police Department became the first in Kenton County to install Mobile Date Computers in every patrol car.The goal of both projects was to facilitate smooth and efficient delivery of services to our citizens and enhance the safety of Emergency Services personnel in Erlanger and Elsmere. Both projects were successful, thanks to the team effort put forth by all parties involved.

The D.A.R.E / School Resource program is one of the busiest and most popular programs in the police department. The Telecommunication Center is probably one of the most underrated divisions of our Police Department. A dispatcher is the very first contact a Complainant, Victim, or Citizen has communications with. Therefore a dispatcher, most of the time, will set the tone of how the outcome will be in a situation by how well the communicate to the other party.
