Volunteer Assistant Fire Chief Jack Scheben is honored for his 65 years of Service
Erlanger Fire/EMS is pleased to announce that Assistant Chief Jack Scheben has served Erlanger Fire/EMS for over 65 years. He was recognized at the Erlanger City Council Meeting tonight, January 4, 2011. Chief Scheben received the first ever 65 Year Service pin from the City of Erlanger which incudes a Black Onyx jewel embeded.
Jack was involved with the department before he was 16 years old and his family involvement dates back to the origination of the Fire Department in 1904. There has been over 100 years of Scheben service to the City of Erlanger. Jack spent many years riding his bike to Station 2 for runs. He officially joined the department in 1945 when he has 16 years old. He worked his way up through the department, serving as a Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, and the Chief from 1976-1988.
By trade Jack was a Chemical Research Specialist for 38 years. Throughout his fire service career he was involved with building Fire Station 1 and Station 3 which was dedicated to the Scheben family. In 1996 he was awarded the National Volunteer Fire Council Firefighter of the Year. He continues to donate his time teaching at St. Henry Grade School and assisting with the Historical Society. He also is a member of the Kenton County Fire Investigation team and the current Treasurer for Greater Cincinnati Hazardous Materials Unit.
